During filming, Selleck was overcome with stress in order to find a successful work-life balance. Long hours and days on set meant he wasn’t home enough, so when his daughter Hannah was born, Selleck took a break. It was crucial for him to be home with his family in this time.

Closer Weekly recently interviewed Selleck and he spoke further about why he wanted to leave Magnum, “Magnum, P.I. went to 163 shows and We still had ground to cover, and I wasn’t tired of it. I was tired from it because I was in every shot.” Which is why starring in Blue Bloods is so ideal for him, he’s not in every shot so he isn’t working every single day.
