On September 14, the Combined Appeals Court of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba then removed all restrictions against Joran and the Kalpoe brothers. This included a travel restriction however as all charges were dropped, Joran actually returned to the Netherlands to attend university.

Not long after Joran and his friends were arrested, two additional suspects were brought into custody as well, Steve Gregory Croes (a disc jockey) and Paulus van der Sloot, Joran’s father. Croes had been a suspect from the very beginning as Joran mentioned him in his original statement. Both suspects had alibis however and were released just days after their initial arrests. Again, another dead end.
