Then the calendar showed the 11th of September 2001 – and the single largest terrorist attack in modern memory happened in New York. Thousands were killed and the world would never be the same. On September 13th 2001 the Queen completely broke with tradition and authorized the playing of the Star Spangled Banner during the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. It was an historic moment.
